Our History

In 1983, a group of people interested in promoting arts and crafts in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan purchased a 100-year-old building to serve as a meeting center and to display artwork created by those living in and around the village of Garden. In 1985, Village Artisans of Garden opened the Garden Gallery to display the work of local artists for purchase:

  • baskets

  • blown and stained glass

  • candles

  • fabric creations

  • jewelry

  • metal work

  • paintings

  • photography

  • pottery

  • weaving

  • wood objects and carvings

In 1991, the original building was demolished and an exact replica was constructed in its place and The Village Artisans was created exclusively for charitable and educational purposes.
